REVIEW: B Precise Gel Eyeliner

Afternoon all –  nice and full from over-indulgence from the festive period?

Now, as we all try and squeeze ourselves into our party frocks for the biggest night of the year tomorrow night, I’d like to draw (scuse the pun) your attention to this little beauty….the B. Precise Gel Eyeliner from Superdrug.

For a long time now I’ve been toying with the idea of purchasing a gel eyeliner and have been given lots of recommendations by friends. However the decision was made for me when this little baby landed on my desk thanks to my wonderful friends at Superdrug.

I was sent the black colour and in the box is a little pot of gel with its very own brush.

Usually I have used a liquid eyeliner to draw on my little cat-eye flicks but had grown tired of the constant smudging in my usual brand but on first use of the gel eyeliner I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to use as opposed to the liquid one that takes a few attempt to get right – a wonderful thing when you’re in a rush to get ready!

A little goes a long way with this particular brand and the pigment is strong so there is no reason to go over the liner unless you you like some really thick lines that is!

I would also recommend wiping down the brush after each use as it does clog a little if you don’t and though it is perfectly fine to use for the time being, I’m looking at buying a more finer brush to get a less thicker line that this brush provides.

REVIEW: Cloud Nails, Manchester Airport

Preparing for a holiday is half of the fun for me; even packing adds to the excitement (so I love a list, who doesn’t’?)

Yet on a recent girlie trip to Prague for a dear friend’s birthday, I just couldn’t seem to get into the swing of things – my outfits were all chosen last minute, my hair hadn’t been cut the week before in my usual pre-holiday fashion and my manicure was chipped. Perhaps it was because we were only going for a weekend, or maybe it was down to the fact we were going in early October and I’m only used to jetting off in Summer, I just don’t know but prepared I was not.

So when the birthday girl and I were invited to have some pre-flight pampering at the new Cloud Nail bar at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 1, it appeared the holiday angels had been listening.

With no bags to check in and online boarding passes printed out we headed through to security. It’s not uncommon for me to be stopped to be patted down (something about my face?) but this time a full on search was undertaken by the lady on the desk. And with a group of eight girls, this was no mean feat.

IMG_3078Not to worry, we were through and B.G and I took our places at the nail bar while the other took their places in the actual bar. Due to the quick turnover of passengers, appointments aren’t necessarily made at the bar but with the lighting-fast manicure talents of the salon girls, there is little time to wait.

B.G and I opted for something similar for our manicures – O.P.I navy gel polish with sparkly gel overlay, fabulous.

Taking the time out for a little pampering ahead of your flight is something to be enjoyed. Having never had the experience before I can certainly say the next time I’m in T1 ior T2 I shall be taking the time out for myself.

The ‘Express’ menu of treatments means even the most ‘time pushed’ traveller can enjoy a flawless set of nails from only £15 and the ladies mentioned that most of their customers are amazed to learn that they can treat themselves to an O.P.I. 3 Week Gel manicure which is chip resistant, super glossy and instantly dry in only 15 minutes with no risk of knocks or smudges.

Ideal for the weekend city-breakers like us or the two week beach dwellers.

Due to the friendliness of the girls, B.G, myself and the rest of the ladies almost missed our boarding call which resulted in a Home Alone-style sprint to the gate.

But while our faces may have been flushed, our manicures were flawless.

Even better, they stayed that way until my Birthday a couple of weeks later – bonus!!

REVIEW: Ice Diamond Digital Hair Straightener

I’m the kind of girl that once she finds something that she likes, she sticks with it.

Which is why when I was sent a pair of the Ice Diamond hair straighteners, I was a little dubious.

Could they live up to my beloved GHDs?

I’ve had my pair of purple, patterned, GHDs for a good few years since my OH treated me to a pair for Christmas. Now, the once glorious irons have decided  to start creaking and don’t heat up as well as they should. However pretty they look on the outside, they’re just not cutting the mustard any more.

I had never heard of Ice Diamond until I was sent their new Digital Hair Straightener.

Boxed up

Boxed up

Opening the box I found a lovely, sleek, shiny black iron – complete with diamanté insert (who doesn’t love a little bling in their life?)

The blue LCD digital display lit up as soon as the little baby was plugged in and turned on and quickly learned that the irons could be turned up from 80 degrees to as high as 230 degrees. Naturally I opted for the highest setting (sorry hair).

And off we went.

Having decided I would try out the iron on the most challenging of my hair states (washed hair the night before and left to dry overnight), I was interested to see the result and the iron glided through my hair without pulling, thanks to the titanium plates, quickly sorting out the kinks. They gave a lovely, sleek look to my hair, especially when they were used after blow-drying. I did notice that they did cause my hair to become a little static but, again, that might be down to the state my hair was in rather than anything to do with the product because it only happened on occasion.

All in all, I can’t fault the Ice Diamond

IMG_2318hair straighteners and they were much-lauded by my girl friends when they tried them out during  a girls weekend to Edinburgh. However, I’ve never been able to curl my hair with any straighteners – perhaps down to my technique more than anything – and would love to see if they give the same result as my GHDs do because they match in pretty much everything else.

The Digital Hair Straighteners are currently on offer on the Ice Diamond website for £76.49. They also have these BEAUTIFUL Swarovski encrusted babies but at £310, they’re a little out of my price range!

REVIEW: In love with Lush

There are some days when my job doesn’t feel like a job at all.

Monday was one of those days 🙂

On day 8 of 9 and a half I was feeling somewhat fazed, sleepy and positively grumpy but I had a ‘job’ (in the loosest sense of the word) to go on so off I trotted to the Lush store at Preston’s Fishergate Centre.

I arrived just in time for an evacuation – the centre’s entire population gathering on a nearby car park during a delightful ‘Spring’ freeze was just what the doctor ordered(!) – but the lovely Lush ladies were not to be thwarted in their quest to bring me a little bit of sunshine.

IMG_1866

Back in the warmth of the store I was met my Heather, Danielle (who incidently has a rather fabulous blog here), Millie, Charlotte and Tracey. As I arrived I was the first person back inside after the near-dramatic fire drill but the area quickly filled up with customers including one group of schoolgirls from a local primary school who, like me, were there to be shown the inner workings of the Lush machine

Though the current weather conditions may be eager to keep us in an icy grip, we ladies are ready to Spring forward and banish the Winter woolies to the back of the wardrobe for another year

But before we get ahead of ourselves, our skin needs to be warm-weather ready.

The Lush company makes their products by hand every week and at the Preston store, I was given the opportunity to get my hands dirty.

Under the instruction of Heather Smith, who works at the store, I was provided with the ingredients to create one of Lush’s face masks; ‘Catastrophe Cosmetic’ (a review will be on it’s way!)
Combining blueberries, almond oil and essential oils, the mask really is food for your face.

Heather says, “The natural products really help in getting the best out of your skin.
“And as blueberries are a natural antioxidant, this particular mask is brilliant in times of emergencies when your skin breaks out.”
As I gazed at the array of pots on display, highlighted

with asparagus, lemons, garlic and even chocolate drops, it was difficult to refrain from eating the stuff – something I must remember as all of the masks need to be stored in the fridge as they’re so fresh.

Stacey Smith, showed me around the shop’s facial scrub collection, and added Spring is the perfect time to shed dull complexions.
She says, “Most of the scrubs we have in store are fine to use every day and, again, they all use natural ingredients rather than harsh chemicals so are lovely on the skin and help us to get rid of the dull layers of skin and toxins that build up in the skin.”

Another top tip to banish Winter skin blues it to feed dry skin that has been battered by harsh winds and overactive central heating with attentive moisturisers.
Though there are plenty on offer, the aptly named ‘Gorgeous’ is a Lush best seller.
Stacey continues, “The formula was favoured by Princess Diana and is one of our customer’s favourites.
“Though a little more expensive than the other moisturisers we stock, this one is made using the most effective ingredients.”
If it’s good enough for royalty, it’s good enough for me!
